Chamrousse

Just an hour from Grenoble and perched on a plateau in the Belledonne mountain range opposite the Vercors, Chamrousse was used for both the mens and womens alpine skiing events in the 1968 Olympics based in Grenoble.
It's location means the views are superb from resort and from the slopes. Previously the resort was only used by local skiers and weekend skiers from nearby Grenoble and Lyon, but it has recently started to become known on the British market - for good reasons.

The resort is split into 3 different areas - Le Recoin which is situated at 1650m , Chamrousse 1700 and Chamrousse 1750 - all of which feed into the same ski area. The top of the ski area is the Croix de Chamrousse which is at 2250m from where you have a panoramic view of the valley of Grenoble.

There are plenty of good value restaurants in the Le Recoin (1650), together with the usual amenities, banks, post office, a pharmacy and several supermarkets. Chamrousse 1750 is smaller but also has sports shops, a small supermarket, bars and restaurants. Activities in resort other than downhill and cross country skiing include ice driving, ice diving, snow shoeing and snowbiking.
